Ten Movies You Should Be Anticipating In 2019

Happy New Year! As we clean up from our New Year’s festivities, it’s time to focus on 2019. While 2018 had a large number of quality releases, it seems that 2019 has numerous sequels scheduled. Whether this is a good thing remains to be seen. Here are some titles that should be on your radar as we start the new year.

Runner-Up: (Tied) ‘The Lion King’ and ‘Toy Story 4’

Jon Favreau gained critical acclaim for his adaptation of The Jungle Book and now returns to the director’s chair for the live-action adaptation of The Lion King. The cast appears stellar, and the visuals in the trailer are amazing. Take a look –

Toy Story 4 features a return to one of the more popular Pixar titles. Whether this ends up being the best idea remains to be seen. Check out the teaser trailer –

10. ‘Shazam!’

After seeing what David F. Sandberg can pull off with the tiniest of budgets (Lights Out), one can’t help but get excited about seeing Sandberg’s creativity on display when he has plenty of resources. It appears they’ve made excellent casting choices and have the makings of an engaging narrative. Check out the trailer

9. ‘Captain Marvel’

Brie Larson takes center stage this March in Captain Marvel. Larson’s character promises to have quite the impact during Avengers: Endgame, but it’s her backstory which intrigues fans. Check out the trailer-

8. ‘Glass’

While I wasn’t a fan of Split, it sure seems that the conclusion to M. Night Shmalayan’s trilogy will more the makeup for any issues his previous film had.

7. ‘Avengers: End Game’

Easily one of the biggest cinematic moments of 2018 was the sight of Marvel’s bravest warriors vanishing into dust. A fellow critic locally has stated countless times that this is the one movie that needs no buildup because of the snap heard around the world. Here’s the trailer –

6. ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’

Tom Holland’s fate in Avengers: Infinity War heightens the anticipation for the follow-up to the widely successful Spider-Man: Homecoming. While we don’t have an official trailer as of yet, please check out this shot of Holland and his co-star Zendaya in action during the filming of this sequel courtesy of justjared.com.

3. ‘A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood’

Marielle Heller’s follow up to Can You Ever Forgive Me stars Tom Hanks in the lead role. With Richard E. Grant likely to win an Oscar for his work in Heller’s current project, could Hanks make this director 2 for 2? Perhaps that’s wishful thinking but check out how Hanks looks as Mr. Rodgers.

2. Godzilla: King Of Monsters

So you are telling me I can watch Godzilla and his monster pals destroy city after city and it can be done terrifyingly as well? Sign me up! Here’s The trailer!

1. ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

How could Star Wars not be our top choice? It appears the end of the Skywalker saga is upon us and fans are left with so many different questions and not many answers. Will J.J. Abrams continue down the unconventional path Rian Johnson started us on or will he pivot towards a more conventional conclusion.
